Making communication count

Mercer’s What’s Working™ survey reveals that US employees think their employers are communicating more effectively today compared to five years ago. Younger workers are more positive than the overall workforce about most aspects of communication – with the exception of benefits communication.

“Workforce communication – including what an organization communicates and how it communicates – has a significant impact on employee engagement,” says Amy Heiserman, Mercer’s US Leader for Workforce Communication and Change. “Communicating effectively to all stakeholders is critical, especially during difficult or transitional times.”

“Reaching a variety of audiences means having a tailored communication approach for each one,” she adds. “As our research shows, different workforce segments have different needs and expectations regarding work and communication. This needs to be reflected in communication plans in terms of the types and timing of messages delivered and the channels, tools and techniques used to convey information.”
