Mercer’s What’s Working™ survey reveals that US employees hold more favorable views of both top management and direct supervisors today, compared to five years ago, although room for improvement still exists.
“In many countries included in our research, perceptions of management declined – sometimes sharply,” says Patrick Shannon, a partner in Mercer’s Human Capital consulting business. “But we saw the opposite in the US. Organizations understand the vital role of leadership in driving business success, and they have been making investments to enhance the effectiveness of both senior management and immediate supervisors.”
“This represents a strong step in the right direction, and employers would be well advised to devote further attention to the role of front-line managers in shaping workforce behaviors and results,” he says.
